Service Writer Job Description Job Title: Service Writer Reports
to: Shop Manager
Responsible for assisting Shop Manager with customer communications
for purposes of making appointments, scheduling/organizing drop
off/pickup of vehicles, and getting authorization/permission for
maintenance and repairs of customer owned vehicles. Open and Close
the business in the absence of Shop Manager. Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification: High School diploma or above
Must Possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver License
ASE Certified Service Writer (preferred, but not required) Special
Knowledge/Skills: Must possess and maintain the following:
Excellent work place habits
Advanced knowledge of automotive diagnostics, repair, and
Typing skills (40-60 wpm)
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to
maintain emotional control in stressful situations
Work in concert with shop personnel
Coordinate vehicle repairs and maintenance
Technician and bay efficiency Possess good grammar and arithmetic
skills Understand basic business operations and functionality
At least two years of experience in a Service Writer position of an
independent automotive shop, automotive dealership, an automotive
franchise shop, or equivalent. Responsibilities and Duties: Assist
Shop Manager with estimates, work orders, and invoices for the work
performed, or potentially to be performed.
Open and Close the business in the absence of the Shop Manager and
ensure that the building, storage containers, and all customer
owned vehicles are safe and secure.
Assist Shop Manager with assigning and delegating the job
assignments to the technicians and oversee the job assignments from
start to finish.
Work irregular hours, as
Submit to Drug and Alcohol Testing.
Routinely inspect all shop equipment and work area to maintain a
safe work environment for ALL employees.
Abide by all shop policies and procedures through positive example
and positive attitude.
Prioritize work orders or job duties.
Responsible for finding and reporting customers' automobile
Adhere to the shop's purchasing guidelines.
Respond to breakdowns and/or priority vehicles in a timely

pounds. Environment: Work around moving objects or vehicles, fumes,
solvents, greases, oils, and other automotive chemicals. The
