Responsible for determining, marking and maintaining horizontal and
vertical control of a project, and assisting in supervision of
subcontractor’s work as assigned. Other positions which may report
to a Surveyor: Carpenter or Apprentice, to assist in layout.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities All duties and
responsibilities include the following, however, other duties may
be assigned. To perform in this position successfully, an

Study and analyze construction drawings to confirm or otherwise
establish the planned layout dimensions and elevations for the
project. Inform Superintendent of any variations in the project
dimensions and elevations, and assist company and subcontractor
personnel to (1) understand the layout, and (2) identify the
precise locations of the elements being installed. Survey, verify
and mark actual lines and elevations to provide visual benchmarks
for the elements being installed by using measuring tape,
electronic distance measuring devices, theodolites, and total
station instruments. Measure dimensions and elevations of installed
work, marking As-Built Drawings to indicate actual dimensions and
elevations, using measuring devices, theodolites, and total station
instruments. Other functions as may be required or assigned by
Project Superintendent or other authorized individual, including
making suggestions of alternative construction methods and
techniques, and/or developing interpretations of vague or
conflicting information, etc. Management Responsibilities None
Knowledge/Skills/Ability Working knowledge of Geometry,
Trigonometry, Algebraic formulas and ability to apply those
formulas, and perform mathematic calculations to determine lines,
grades, points and elevations. Ability to work within precise
standards of accuracy. Skill to use transit, level, measuring tape
and conventional surveying tools. Knowledge of standard surveying
practices. Knowledge of typical construction techniques and
applications. Skill in comparing and assessing differences in size,
shape and form of lines, figures, and objects. Skill in observing
two dimensional drawings or pictures and understanding how they
will look in three dimensions as solid objects. Ability to read and
interpret construction documents. Education High School Degree or
vocational training or an equivalent combination of education,
technical training and experience. Job Location Florence, Texas

visual assessments of the exact location of a marker when viewed
through a surveyor’s instrument. Special Job Dimensions The office
provides a safe and healthy work environment, is adequately heated
and cooled, is free from exposure and extreme conditions, has
appropriate lighting and office furnishings, and is smoke-free and
drug-free. While performing the duties of this position in the
fabrication shop, warehouse, maintenance shop or at a project site,
the employee could be regularly exposed to any number of the
following, including, but not limited to: moving mechanical parts;
moving machinery; high, precarious places (including, but not
limited to, being raised several hundred feet in a bucket); close
tight quarters; rough and sloped terrain; fumes or airborne
particles; drilling and blasting activities; welding activities;
toxic or caustic chemicals; the potential of falling rock; and
outside weather conditions. The employee may be occasionally
exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level
in the work environment is generally loud. * NOTE – Where allowed,
employees who work in positions classified as “safety-sensitive”
can be disciplined if they test positive for marijuana or its
metabolites, even if they have a valid state medical marijuana
license. In addition, Flintco may also refuse to hire applicants
for safety-sensitive jobs who test positive for marijuana as part
of a pre-employment drug test, even if those applicants can produce
a valid medical marijuana patient license.
