SUMMARY To provide leadership, supervision, and administrative skills in order to promote the educational development of each student. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: * Supervises all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the campus level curriculum to include special education. Title 1, compensatory programs, tutoring, testing, and all other special programs. * Implement procedures to identify and monitor at-risk students at all grade levels, including review of student data. * Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the at-risk campus program and implement changes based on the findings. * Provide resources and materials to aid staff in accomplishing program goals. * Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, community agencies, and other relevant individuals regarding students in at-risk situations. * Solicit federal funds and participate in grant-writing activities to obtain funding for programs and services for at-risk students. * Sets specific education objectives for the campus, through the planning process. * Consults with the campus-level committee in the planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the campus educational program. * Develops, reviews, and revises the campus improvement plan with the assistance of the campus-level committee. * Leads in monitoring the instructional program and determining its appropriateness. * Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum. * Provides classes within established guides to meet student needs. * Appraises and conferences with campus personnel regarding their performance. * Supervises the maintenance of accurate student academic records. * Supervises the guidance program to enhance student education and development. * Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school. * Plan, organizes, and directs, implementation of all school activities. * Prepares and administers the school budget and supervises school finances. * Maintains and controls the various local funds generated by student activities. * Provides for adequate inventories of property under his/her jurisdiction and for the security and accountability for that property, including textbooks. * Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations concerning school personnel and students. * Supervises the preparation and maintenance of all required records and reports. * Works with central administration on school problems including transportation, special services, etc. * Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of health and safety of students. * Provides training and supervises the training opportunities for campus administration to develop skills in instructional leadership. * Assumes responsibility for the maintenance and safety of the school plant. * Supervises the use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes. * Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and nonprofessional personnel assigned to the school. * Assigns, evaluates, and promotes all personnel assigned to the campus. * Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees and councils on his/her campus. * Participates in the selection and assignment of all school campus personnel. * Approves all teacher and staff appointments for the campus. * Orients newly assigned faculty members and assists in their development. * Conducts faculty meetings. * Involves campus staff in the planning of staff development activities. * Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business. * Attends special events held to recognize student achievements, and attends school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events. * Establishes positive relationships and interacts with students and parents. * Ensures that conferences between parents and teachers are held. * Responds to written and oral requests for information. * Assumes responsibility for official campus correspondence and news releases. * Acts as a liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life. * Keeps the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Support informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well a routine matters related to job responsibilities. * Institutes and administers a campus discipline management plan that is consistent with the district plan. * Assumes administrative responsibility and instructional leadership, under the supervision of the Superintendent, for discipline at the campus. * Assumes responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, enrollment in advanced courses, and reading professional journals and other publications. * Accepts full-time membership on the school district's leadership planning team. * Develops and implements short-term and long-term range campus plans. * Understands and accepts the scope of authority. * Serves as a member of committees and attends meetings as directed by the superintendent or designee. * Establishes and maintains an inviting, receptive campus environment for parents and community. * Assumes the responsibility for effectiveness and compliance for campus-based state and federal programs. * Analyzes and uses student performance data to provide focus and precisions to instructional goal setting, campus planning, budgetary decision, and professional development opportunities. * Recommends to the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources the terminations, suspension, or non-renewal of an employee assigned to the campus. * Reports the maximum attendance for the school to the Superintendent for the purpose of textbook requisitions. * Exhibits and encourages the highest standard of professional conduct and bases daily decisions on ethical principles. * Ensures that the Code of Ethics and Standard practices for Texas Educators is followed and uses an understanding of legal issues to make sound decisions. * Performs any duties assigned by the Superintendent pursuant to Board policy. * Performs other Tasks as assigned by Supervisor/Superintendent. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Manages all teachers and staff at the assigned campus. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this campus. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, recommending the hiring and termination of, and training, employees. Planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree, three years teaching experience, and previous experience in instructional leadership roles. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental laws and regulations. Ability to write reports, educational correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, faculty, parents, students and the community. Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITIES Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES Must be familiar with computers, such as word processing, e-mail, and Internet. Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction; ability to manage budget and personnel, and to coordinate campus functions; and the ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Texas Teaching Certificate and Mid-Management/Principal Certificate.
