The HVAC Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, timely,
and competitive cost estimates for industrial and commercial
Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) projects. This
role involves comprehensive analysis of mechanical drawings,
specifications, and equipment schedules to determine the full scope
of work, ensuring project profitability and successful bid
submission. Key Responsibilities: Quantity Take-Offs: Perform
detailed and precise quantity take-offs for HVAC systems including
ductwork, piping, insulation, air handling units (AHUs), chillers,
boilers, VRF systems, controls components, supports, and associated
installation materials. Cost Development: Develop comprehensive
cost estimates encompassing material pricing, labor hours (based on
productivity rates), equipment rentals, subcontracting services,
fabrication costs, and indirect costs. Bid Preparation: Prepare,
review, and finalize complete bid proposals and supporting
documentation for project submission, ensuring compliance with
client and company standards. Specification Review: Thoroughly
analyze mechanical drawings, HVAC schedules, control diagrams,
piping schematics, and project specifications to ensure all project
requirements are captured in the estimate. Risk Identification:
Identify potential project risks, scope gaps, long-lead equipment
items, constructability concerns, and technical challenges,
incorporating appropriate contingencies into the estimate.
Procurement Support: Collaborate with the Procurement team to
obtain competitive pricing from vendors and suppliers for major
HVAC equipment, prefabricated components, and bulk materials.
Subcontractor Management: Solicit, evaluate, and compare quotes
from subcontractors (e.g., insulation contractors, test and balance
firms, controls contractors). Project Team Interface: Work closely
with Project Managers, Engineers, and Field Operations to align
estimates with proposed execution strategies, labor planning, and
constructability reviews. Client Interaction: Participate in
pre-bid meetings, site walkdowns, and client clarification sessions
to validate scope, site conditions, and system requirements.
Qualifications: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in HVAC
estimating, preferably within industrial, commercial,
manufacturing, or energy infrastructure sectors. Bachelor's degree
in Construction Management or related field is preferred Strong
proficiency in interpreting mechanical drawings, HVAC layouts,
equipment schedules, and technical specifications. Working
knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE,
IMC, SMACNA). Proficiency with industry-standard estimating
software (e.g., Bluebeam and Accubid). High proficiency in
Microsoft Excel for complex spreadsheet calculations and cost
analysis. Familiarity with project scheduling tools (e.g.,
Primavera P6 or MS Project) is a plus. Exceptional analytical
skills and meticulous attention to detail. Strong verbal and
written communication skills with the ability to present complex
cost data clearly to management and clients. Ability to manage
multiple estimates simultaneously and meet strict deadlines in a
fast-paced environment. Physical Requirements: The physical demands
