Registered Nurse - Biologic Nurse Coordinator - Temple,
Texas
Duties
VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package:
The BNC implements the nursing process to coordinate and secure
biological and non-biological implants for Central Texas Veterans
Health Care System (CTVHCS), Austin Outpatient Clinics (AOPC), Waco
Clinics and other clinical areas as deemed necessary; collaborate
and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members,
services and vendors to ensure continuity of patient care.
The BNC is responsible for establishing designated areas for
storage of biological tissue; ensure biologicals are stored within
manufacturer required temperatures; monitor the wireless
temperature system and operate storage equipment IAW manufacturers'
guidelines. In the event of equipment or wireless temperature
system failure, the BNC follows CTVHCS policy and procedures to
initiate contingency plans. The BNC is accountable for
bi-directional tracking of biologicals, from vendor to final
disposition; accurate data entry in the implant tracking system;
verify the vendor's credentials and FDA registration prior to
ordering products; identify the Instruction for Use (IFU) for
biologicals; and verify the tracking system delivers the tissue
usage information card to the vendor. The BNC completes inventory
audits to verify all areas are stocked with appropriate par levels
to reduce the risk of expired or discarded products. The BNC runs
various reports to include, but not limited to inventory audits and
chart audits. The BNC proficiently navigates the electronic health
record (EHR); respond to biological and non-biological implant
orders; enter appropriate consults; and complete chart audits to
verify documentation of the tissue type and its unique identifier
are in the patient's EHR. The BNC provides training and education
for front-line staff that use implants; train staff to document in
the implant tracking system; ensure staff complete annual
competencies; provide staff assistance with documentation in the
EHR; and educate providers with established procedures when
ordering implants. The BNC serves as the facility point of contact
to report recalls and safety notifications that may affect patient
outcomes; quarantine affected implants, follow the manufacturer's
recall instructions, and report findings per CTVHCS policy.
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary
increases
