Job Description:
Position Summary
The Social Worker is responsible for modeling the 3 Company values
of Compassion, Integrity, and Excellence, and for promoting the
Hospice Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of success as the
foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical
Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the
Program, between the Program and other Company departments, and
between the Program and all external stakeholders. The Social
Worker provides preventive, educational, and evaluative and
treatment services to meet the psychosocial needs of patients and
their families, to help them improve, restore, and maintain their
maximum level of coping. The Social Worker utilizes community
resources and the interdisciplinary team to aid in this process.
S/he is responsible for applying the rules and regulations of state
and federal regulatory agencies and other certified agencies.
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for modeling the 3 Company

Program, between the Program and other Company departments, and
between the Program and all external stakeholders. The Volunteer
Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, selecting, training,
supervising, and retaining volunteers to adequately support
volunteer operations and to ensure compliance with state and
federal regulations. He/she will ensure the coordination of patient
and family needs for volunteer services and will oversee the
development and implementation of the plan of care to meet those
needs. S/he is responsible for applying the rules and regulations
of state and federal regulatory agencies and other certified
agencies.
Position Responsibilities
Knowledge and Skills
Education and/or Experience
(A) Has a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a school of
social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
(preferred); or
(B) Has a baccalaureate degree in social work from an institution
accredited by the Council on Social Work Education; or a
baccalaureate degree in psychology, sociology, or other field
related to social work; and has 1 year of social work experience in
a healthcare setting and is supervised by an MSW; or
(C) Has a baccalaureate degree from a school of social work
accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, is employed by
the Hospice Compassus before December 2, 2008, and is not required
to be supervised by an MSW.
State specific requirements:
The State Board of Social Work Examiners licenses as a Licensed
Social Worker or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker pursuant to
N.J.A.C. 13:44G; and has either:
A. Nine hundred hours of social work experience in a health care
setting as part of the master's degree curriculum of a social work
internship; or
B. One year of social work experience in a health care setting
after licensure as a social worker.
As Volunteer Coordinator:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
College degree preferred. Experience in Social Services, Human
Services, Resource Management or related field is helpful; or
equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior
experience managing volunteer services or non-profit organization
is a plus.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of
measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short
correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small
group situations to volunteers, public, colleagues, patients and
families of patients.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of
concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization
exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in
written, oral, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be
proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software. Previous experience
in use of an electronic medical record is helpful.
Other Qualifications
Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, communication and
teaching skills with presentation experience. Creativity in
preparing and making presentations. Must be of high integrity
including maintenance of confidential information including all
personnel and patient records. Ability to work a flexible schedule,
to include some evenings and weekends. Must be able to travel
frequently.
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
Must have a valid driver's license and auto liability
insurance.
Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates
and embraces hospice philosophy. Must be able to tend the geriatric
and the terminally ill. Ability to communicate with the families of
patients. Ability to make presentations to the public, colleagues,
and groups of volunteers.

Estimated salary range $18.45 - $32.26 / hour. Actual salary will
vary by geographic location and experience.
