RECRUITMENT/RELOCATION INCENTIVE MAY BE OFFERED The incumbent of this position will work under the Chief of Staff at the VA Medical Center in Temple, Texas. Effectively leads the clinical staff to achieve the service's mission and goals. Responsible for Geriatrics and Extended Care, Community Living Center Residents, and Home Based Primary Care patients as the service's needs. For the outpatient setting, the physician will provide treatment to frail, chronically ill Veterans. Work with the Quadrad to ensure that the facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of VHA and VA. Provide an environment that provides patient care, educational activity, and administrative planning and evaluation based on integration and application of current knowledge. Establish mechanisms whereby facility employees, higher level administration, and other VA components are informed, in a timely manner, of clinical program developments that affect them. Take an active role as a management team member, providing advice and counsel in defining and accomplishing the facility's missions and goals. Promote standards of clinical competence and conduct for staff which is maintained through compliance with credentialing and privileging processes. Demonstrate leadership in resolving employee-management disputes. Provides clinical services to Veterans. Clinic appointments, conducts diagnostic evaluations, medication management and consultations. This is a non-bargaining unit position. Work Schedule: Full Time. 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Monday - Friday. IF PATIENT NEEDS ARISE, THE INCUMBENT OF THE ABOVE POSITION MAY BE REASSIGNED WITHIN THE CENTRAL TEXAS VETERANS HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. Basic Requirements : United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Experience: Board Certification in Geriatrics. Leadership/Manager Positions. Physician leadership and manager positions may be Chief of Staff, Directors (i.e., medical center and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN)); selected positions in Central Office; Distinguished Physicians; and Service Chiefs or Service Line Managers. Positions are approved for these levels based on the scope and complexity of the assignment and the level of responsibility. Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds, light lifting, under 15 pounds, use of fingers, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid permitted); must pass a pre-employment examination.
