Job Description:



The Cardiac Device Tech Trainee performs a variety of functions related to implanted cardiac device management, such as ICD, Pacemaker and ILR evaluations for outpatients, inpatient and procedure areas under general supervision. Performs pacemaker parameter testing and remote monitoring, including the interpretation of data and recognition of potential life threatening cardiac irregularities that require referral to EP or Cardiology Service. This position is also responsible for ensuring that patients and their families are well-educated and are provided the necessary instructions for monitoring and follow up.


Serves as resource to physicians and other practice employees regarding device patients and services.

Assesses the condition and appearance of the implant site and documents any abnormality. Interrogates, interprets, and re-programs cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision.

Ensures charges are accurately captured for device interrogation.

Troubleshoots critical device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution.

Collaborates with physicians regarding device status and accurately document device analysis in EMR for review.

Educates patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol.

Promotes a healthy clinical environment and good working relationships.

Participates in positive, proactive inter- and intra-departmental communication.

Keeps equipment in good working condition and notify appropriate personnel of problem areas or safety issues. Ensures programming rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies.

Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.


Ability to work both individually and as part of a team to ensure efficient and accurate interpretations.

Pursing a certificate from an approved device technical school (Like Arrhythmia Technical Institute - ATI) that provides a formal curriculum of education and training in cardiac pacing, defibrillation, cardiac .resynchronization therapy and electrophysiology.

Ability to acquire knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias.

Ability to acquire proficiency in ECG interpretation.

Basic computer skills and electronic management of medical records.

Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Must be able to obtain BLS certification within 3 months of hire date.

Within six (6) months - one (1) year after hire or proof of completion of rhythm interpretation and management educational program. (Internal or External accepted).

Preferred to become IBHRE certified within 3 years of experience.

Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience

 Basic Life Support (BLS): Within 90 days.
